READ TO ACHIEVE

Read to Achieve is a year round program sponsored by the NBA that encourages a love of reading in children. Players and coaches from the Atlanta Hawks, as well as former players participate in various reading and book donation events throughout the city. A recent such event featured a donation of 10,000 books by the Atlanta Hawks to the Atlanta Union Mission’s My Sister’s House in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Union Mission offers an invaluable service to women and children, providing both temporary shelter services, as well as long term treatment and rehabiliation support.

The young kids at the shelter were thrilled to have some great former Hawks players come by to spend time with them and read a few books in the process.

BASKETBALL COACHES CLINIC

I had a great time shooting one of the Atlanta Hawks recent special events. The Hawks offer a special basketball coaches clinic to any coach hoping to brush up on their skills from some of the best in the business. The wide array of coaches had a blast touring the Hawks facilities–everything from their locker rooms to the practice court. They were also given special coaching tips from the Hawks assistant coach Jim Todd.

HOCKEY WEEKEND ACROSS AMERICA

The local hockey community is supported by a ton of great events put on by the Thrashers and Atlanta Spirit. Hockey kids from around the state were lucky enough to participate in a cross-ice game held during intermission at a recent Thrashers game at Philips Arena as part of the Hockey Weekend Across America. Needless to say the kids were pretty stoked about skating in front of such a large audience…and a little nervous too! After the game, the kids got to chat with several Thrashers players as well as get all of their various jerseys, sticks and pucks signed.
